Central Hospital Limited
Located in Bangladesh, Central Hospital Limited (CHL) offers quality medical care to its patients. Amongst its programs, CHL has been providing partially subsidized cleft lip and palate treatment to indigent children in Bangladesh. However, due to financial difficulties, the number of patients benefiting from this service is limited. In The Smile Train’s dedication to helping poor children with cleft lip and palate, a partnership has been established with Central Hospital Limited. This agreement will enable the hospital to provide 500 underserved children with free cleft lip and palate treatment. Dr. AJM Salek will be overseeing this program.

Gonoshasthaya Kendra
Gonoshasthaya Kendra, a non-profit organization and hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh, was established on the basis of helping those who cannot afford and do not have access to primary medical services. There are a large number of untreated cleft lips and palates in Bangladesh due to poor economic conditions and a lack of plastic surgeons in the area. The Smile Train is partnering with Gonoshasthaya Kendra to enable them to provide more children with cleft services, train more doctors on the treatment of clefts, and improve the quality of cleft care. Dr. Swaran Arora will be overseeing this project.

Radboud University Medical Center
Radboud University Medical Center in The Netherlands is dedicated to training surgeons and providing free cleft treatment through missions to Faridpur, Bangladesh. When they began four years ago, there were no local plastic surgeons able to care for cleft patients in Faridpur. Now, they have trained 5 local cleft surgeons, returning annually to continue their training and help with the backlog of cases. On average, each mission provides free treatment to 150 cleft patients. Radboud's commitment to cleft treatment in Faridpur has been recognized by the Honorable Minister of the Social Welfare Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and the President of the Bangladesh Medical Association.
With a Smile Train Treatment and Education Grant awarded in August 2006, Radboud can continue to improve the quality of cleft care in Faridpur and treat additional cleft patients during each mission.

Renaissance Hospital and Research Centre
Cleft cases are found in all age groups because most people in Bangladesh
are very poor, and very few have access to medical treatment. Dr.
Hasan Sarwar, a pediatric surgeon, started a mobile cleft mission
at different hospitals in Bangladesh to reach out to the poor. His
surgical team worked for free and treated 66 patients with clefts
in the last year. A Treatment Grant from The Smile Train will enable
Dr. Sarwar to treat additional poor patients with clefts in Bangladesh.

Society for Rehabilitation of Burn Victims (SRBV) & City
Hospital
It is estimated that thousands of children in Bangladesh suffer
from cleft lip and palate. In Dhaka, many people are not aware that
surgical correction for cleft lip and palate is possible. The majority
of those that do know of the operation cannot afford it and do not
have access to cleft care. The Society for Rehabilitation of Burn
Victims (SRBV) treats poor children from different parts of the
country with supervision from Dr. Md. Shahidul Bari, a consultant
surgeon at SRBV & City Hospital, and his colleagues. The Treatment
Grant from The Smile Train under the direction of Dr. Bari has increased
the number of cleft lip and palate surgeries and improved cleft
care at SRBV & City Hospital.
