Bhutan is one of the world's smallest and least developed economies. The majority of the population lives as subsistence farmers and are quite poor. There are very few doctors or medical specialists in the country, and the Bhutanese must walk for many miles on the one poorly developed East-West road of the country to receive medical care. The Smile Train is helping to fund a treatment program in Bhutan, which will be supervised by Dr. Karma Topgyel and Dr. Ruedi P. Gingrass.
