Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies,
University of São Paulo
In collaboration with the Hospital de Reabilitação de Anomalias
Craniofaciais, Universidade de São Paulo (“Centrinho”) and its parent
association, Sociedade de Promoção Social do Fissurado Lábio-Palatal
(“PROFIS”), The Smile Train funded a transportation program so that
100 additional poor children with cleft lip and palate were able
to receive care. Inge Elly Kiemle Trindade, Ph.D., oversaw the program.
Since its establishment in 1967, Centrinho has seen over 48,000
patients. In 1999 alone, 8,227 primary and secondary surgeries were
performed at the hospital, which belongs to the University of São
Paulo. The transportation program assisted the comprehensive center
in servicing cleft lip and palate patients throughout Brazil.
