Carolina Cleft Lip & Palate Clinic
In February of 2002, Richard C. Hagerty, M.D. traveled to Haiti to train Dr. DeFay, a Haitian surgeon, in some of the latest techniques in cleft lip and palate surgery.  There was an exchange of knowledge about cleft surgery and successful operations were performed. The Smile Train’s Education and Training Grant funded a portion of Dr. Hagerty’s trip.

On June 21st, 2002, The University of North Carolina Craniofacial Center is hosting a symposium entitled "Not Just Lip Service: Caring for the Child with a Cleft Lip and Palate." The symposium, led by Amelia F. Drake, M.D., aims to enhance understanding of practitioners and speech professionals in issues relating to cleft care. An Education & Training Grant funded by the Smile Train helped fund the symposium.
