Al Wasity Hospital
Al Wasity Hospital is a tertiary referral teaching center in Baghdad, Iraq that has been treating cleft lip and palate for the past 7 years. Prior to The Smile Train Equipment Grant in March 2004, Al Wasity struggled to provide quality medical care for the many indigent children in need of cleft treatment. With continued support from The Smile Train, including a Treatment Grant in September 2006, Al Wasity Hospital will be able to treat 320 additional patients.

Al Wasity Hospital's commitment to high quality cleft care is evidenced by their focus on establishing a multidisciplinary cleft team. With the help of The Smile Train, Al Wasity Hospital can create comprehensive cleft teams, including plastic surgeons, oral maxillofacial surgeons, ENT surgeons, orthodontists, speech therapists, and social workers.

Hilla General Teaching Hospital
Recognizing the extreme difficulties being faced by the medical community of Iraq, The Smile Train approved a special grant in honor of Hilla General Teaching Hospital's commitment to cleft care. The grant was given to improve the hospital's cleft program by increasing the number of children treated and improving the quality of care by providing money for new surgical instruments, supplies, medications and anesthesia equipment. Additionally, the grant provides the means for speech therapy, orthodontia and patient transportation.
