Metropolitan Hospital Nairobi
The Metropolitan Hospital Nairobi opened its doors to the public in mid-1995, and since then has grown tremendously. The hospital was founded on the belief that it is possible to offer quality medical care at affordable and cost effective rates or free of charge to destitute patients. This comprehensively equipped, community-owned hospital is located on a 3 acre plot on Rabai Road in Buruburu Estate situated in the Eastlands suburb of Nairobi city. The hospital has a casualty, pharmacy, and operating theatre which are open 24 hours a day and has a Maternity Ward and 6 other wards which cater for Medical, Surgical and Pediatric patients.

Metropolitan Hospital has been involved in Outreach Surgical Missions to distant District Hospitals, during which operations were performed free by Dr. Kimani Wanjeri who is the hospital’s Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. Many children with cleft lip and palate benefited from these outreach missions but our vision was to perform these operations more cost effectively, safely and efficiently at the hospital. This dream was realized in January 2007 when Metropolitan Hospital was accepted as a Smile Train partner. Many patients have so far been screened at our Wednesday Cleft Clinic and more than 40 Cleft surgeries have so far been performed. In 2007, The Smile Train gave the hospital a grant which was used to purchase fine instruments and to publicize the Cleft Surgery Project and we have as a result received and operated on cleft patients from all over Kenya. We are excited by our partnership with The Smile Train and we have derived a lot of satisfaction through seeing the life changes brought forth by fixing the clefts. Our vision is to develop into a renowned Cleft Surgery Centre for Africa and the World.
