Casa Azul
Casa Azul formed their non-profit organization on June 18th of 2003. They provide skilled multidisciplinary treatment to poor patients with mainly cleft lip and palate craniofacial deformities. In their treatments, they follow the principles of Dr. Manuel Yudovich Burak and Dr. Fernando Ortiz Monasterio, so that most of the patients receive pre-surgical orthopedics to enhance the surgical results and lead the maxillofacial growth until adulthood. Currently, Casa Azul is helping children from the North-east of México, from Coahuila to Tamaulipas and San Luis Potosi. Casa Azul's facilities allow doctors to give external treatment patients need, while actual surgery is conducted within one of the best private hospitals in the city, "Hospital San Jose-Tec de Monterrey". With the help of a grant from The Smile Train, Casa Azul will be able to provide surgery for 90 children.

Foundation for the Children of the Californias
In order to treat poor children with clefts living in Baja California Norte, the Foundation for the Children of the Californias facilitates quality cleft care at The Hospital Infantil de las Californias (HIC) in Tijuana, México. Within this state-of-the-art medical facility, cleft patients have access to complete interdisciplinary cleft teams, including plastic surgeons, oral-maxillofacial surgeons, dentists, speech pathologists, nutritionists, psychologists, ophthalmologists, ear-nose-throat doctors, and pediatricians. Many staff members and professionals volunteer their time, making it possible for HIC to provide cleft care for poor children.

For the past 12 years, HIC has been treating cleft patients who were unable to pay for the full cost of a surgery. They also provided free care for abandoned and orphaned children. With the help of a Smile Train Treatment Grant, awarded in August 2006, HIC will be able to continue providing excellent cleft care to the many more children in need on their waiting list.

Hospital General "Dr. Manuel Gea González"
The Smile Train's first surgical partnership in México began in May 2001 with Hospital General "Dr. Manuel Gea González." Through Smile Train funding, 100 poor children with cleft lip and palate in and around México City received free treatment under the cleft team led by Fernando Molina, M.D., Chief of the Department of Plastic, Aesthetic & Reconstructive Surgery.

The Phoniatrics Department at Hospital Gea González treats approximately 750 cleft palate patients every month. Many of these children travel from all over the country and most are very poor. Researchers have investigated the participatory role of parents in speech intervention sessions, and new therapy strategies have been incorporated to the treatment of cleft palate patients. With a Treatment Grant, Dr. Antonio Ysunza, Ph.D. and 5 experienced speech pathologists have overseen annual intensive summer speech camps since 2002, treating 250 children to date, at no charge. They have reported amazing success with this immersion technique.

Maria del Carmen Pamplona oversees their annual intensive summer speech camps, which have treated 250 children since 2002 with Smile Train support, at no charge to the families. They have reported amazing success with this immersion technique. Since a majority of the children attending this camp come from deprived socioeconomic conditions, the program also provides food, and lodging for families living outside of México City.

Project Happy Face
Project Happy Face, overseen by Dr. Manuel Velazquez, received a Treatment Grant from The Smile Train in Sept. 2002. Project Happy Face located in Celaya has been involved with cleft care for 19 years and relies on donations from various organizations and individuals. The surgeons and anesthesiologists donate their time, making it possible for Project Happy Face to provide cleft care for indigent children. The Smile Train's grant will go towards cleft lip and palate surgery for 100 patients thus increasing the number of children who receive cleft care at the center.
