IMPACT Foundation
The IMPACT Foundation of the Philippines is affiliated with three medical facilities in the Philippines. These are the Ilocos Training & Regional Medical center in Ilocos, the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical center in Manila and the Maria Reyna Hospital of Northern Mindanao. These three facilities, with their 48 years of combined cleft care experience, are continually working to provide free surgery to poor children with clefts and to improve their quality of care. With the assistance of a Smile Train grant, IMPACT will be able to provide treatment to an additional 200 patients in 2007.

Since 2002, the Smile Train has provided grants to the Mijares-Gurango Craniofacial Foundation. Located at the Philippine General Hospital, Mijares-Gurango is a cleft-care foundation started by Dr. Pilita Mijares Gurango and her husband who wanted to fulfill their desire to provide surgical care to their country’s poorest patients. Since receiving its first Smile Train grant, the Foundation has been able to provide free cleft care to over 175 patients. With the renewed assistance of The Smile Train, the foundation will able to provide long-term cleft care for an additional 100 indigent patients.

Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation/Chang Gung Memorial Hospital
The Smile Train's first project in the Philippines was established with the Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation (NCF) and the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (Taiwan). The goal is to develop a cleft center on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. The NCF has identified a qualified hospital in General Santos, Mindanao, and local surgeon Ramon E. Gonzales, M.D., an anesthesiologist, and a social worker/speech pathologist for further training. Under the medical directorship of M. Samuel Noordhoff, M.D., The Smile Train's support has enabled 250 surgeries to be performed by the cleft team in Mindanao and is currently providing for an additional 200 cleft surgeries.

Our Lady of Peace Hospital
The Our Lady of Peace Hospital was established in 2002 to provide the poor with access to affordable quality medical care. With the help of the Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation, Foundation of Our Lady of Peace Missions, Inc., and a band of volunteer doctors, the Our Lady of Peace Craniofacial Center (OLPCC) was created in February of 2003. A Treatment Grant from The Smile Train will enable OLPCC to purchase new surgical equipment for cleft treatment that will help hundreds of children receive quality cleft surgery and provide 30 underserved children with the cleft surgery they need. Dr. Glenda H. de Villa will be overseeing this project.
