University of Witwatersrand Cleft Programme
The University of Witwatersrand Cleft Programme provides surgical care for disadvantaged children with cleft lip and palate in South Africa. In a country where the waiting list for cleft surgery is as great as one year, the services provided by University of Witwatersrand Cleft Programme are especially critical. Moreover, patients from as far as Bostwana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Swaziland travel to South Africa to receive cleft treatment.
In November 2006, University of Witwatersrand Cleft Programme received their 3rd treatment grant from The Smile Train. The treatment grant will enable additional surgeries to be provided – relieving the need for cleft treatment one patient at a time.
