About Face
A Treatment Grant helped replace stolen office equipment and helped
to fund the toll-free help number for About Face, whose mission
is to foster acceptance of people with facial differences through
school and community educational programs and family support networks.
After a conversation with Director Rickie Anderson, a grateful help-line
caller wrote, “I really, really needed that. Please believe that
I feel more upbeat than I've felt in a long time.” The New York
chapter of About Face used their Treatment Grant to purchase a computer
and printer, which they use to produce a newsletter that provides
vital support and information on clefts and other facial differences.
In 2002, The Smile Train continued its support of About Face with
another Treatment Grant.
