Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF)
Steven Sosebee founded the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund in 1991 while doing freelance journalism based in Jerusalem. PCRF works in the West Bank, Gaza, and Lebanon on behalf of Palestinian children to provide free plastic, ophthalmic, orthopedic, and cardiac surgery. They also send shipments of medical supplies, and miscellaneous projects such as a Palestinian women’s empowerment project by selling women’s crafts online.
They provide medical services by sending medical missions (with a volunteer base of over 100 doctors from the U.S., Europe, and Australia), with local doctors, and by placing some cases in Europe or the U.S. on a case-by-case basis, as needed.
PCRF has been involved with cleft care for the past 10 years and has performed hundreds of cleft surgeries helping change the lives of children in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Iraq and Syria. In December 2006, PCRF received a grant from the Smile Train that will help them provide free surgeries for 540 poor children in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and Lebanon. With the help of the Smile Train, PCRF is also committed to train local doctors to perform cleft surgeries.
